Dear Parent/Guardian
Welcome to the start of another school session which we hope will be both happy and successful for your children. By working in close partnership the school and parents can help the children develop into successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
For this reason we hope that the parents will continue to support the school as in the past by taking an active interest in their children’s learning, encouraging them to give of their best while also asking them to treat others with due respect and courtesy.
STAFFING We have two new trainee teachers Susan Ross (P4) and Lisa Davidson (P6). The school is also delighted to welcome Carol Kemp (P6) who has joined us from Timmergreens Primary School. Sylvia Cranston has returned as our PE specialist with Jeanette Whitton returning to Arbroath. Sheila Ladbrook has moved to replace June Bell in the ASN base while Kirsty Riach has returned to fill the P4 post.
As for departures we hope that both Gerrie Somerville and Lindsey Grieve have a long, happy retirement after their many excellent years of service at Lochside School. Similarly, Kathleen Morrison (maternity leave) and Julie Annandale will both be greatly missed as they also did not return after the summer break.
Weekly Walk The weekly walk this session will continue to take place on Tuesday mornings. Please ensure your child has a jacket.
Absence Procedures It is important that you inform the school by telephone or letter if your child is to be absent from school. If this is not done, you will be contacted by telephone on day of absence as part of new authority procedures.
Uniform/Clothing The school continues to encourage all the pupils to wear the school uniform. For this reason parents are reminded that as stated in the school handbook the children should not wear trainers to school. Unfortunately, there appears to be a small group of children who have forgotten this request so I am seeking parental support to try and ensure that the children do not wear their trainers to school. However, if at present the child has no alternative footwear, then please remember that in these circumstances they must bring alternative footwear for use in the gym.
Similarly, the staff have reminded the children that they should not wear football tops to gym as this can lead to unnecessary conflicts. So please try to ensure that the children have a t-shirt for gym rather than a football strip. It is also appreciated if ALL articles of clothing are named. Thank you for your continued support in this matter.
School Access All children to enter school via the new small inner gate. This access is for children only. All parents and visitors to the school must access the school via the main office. Parents must wait at the outer gate for their children.
To help the pupils arrive safely at our school the staff have reminded them that they must enter the school via the gates at Glenesk Avenue, Medicine Well Park and Nursery Road. If entering by Nursery Road the pupils must remain on the pavement and at no point should they cross the road entrance or car park area. Please remind them of this rule as it is important that they adhere to it for their own safety.
The school car park is for staff only. There is a car park for parents to use on Glenesk Avenue, opposite the school lane.
Parents are reminded that they should not approach other children within the school grounds. If they have any concerns regarding other pupils, they should inform staff who will investigate the matter.
School Photograph The school photographer will be in school on Thursday 10th September to take class photographs this year.
Lochside Voice Lochside’s Parent Council amalgamated with the PTA in 2008 to form the Lochside Voice. All parents/ careers and staff of Lochside School are automatic members of this new body. The name of the new body was jointly chosen by the pupils and parents of Lochside School. If you wish to contact the Parent Council for any further information then they can be reached by e-mail. The address is lochsideparents@hotmail.com.
It is hoped that the whole school community will continue to support the various events and activities organized by Lochside Voice. The first meeting for this session still has to be arranged but you will be informed in due course. Please remember to come along and help this body support the work of the school.
P1 Parent Reminders There is an Information Afternoon for P1 parents on Thursday 27th August at 1.30pm. You will also receive an invitation to sample a school lunch with your child on Tuesday 8th September at 12 noon. Details regarding this will be sent out at a later date.
